Our Purple Guest Bathroom

Ok, so I don't fancy myself a blogger, let ALONE a home decor blogger/designer, etc.  A couple of years ago I discovered Pinterest and like most Pinterest addicts, I started posting pictures of my own projects.

Fast forward to now and suddenly, our cute little guest bath has taken off.  Only problem is that I just uploaded pictures and there's no explanation.  That's where this blog post comes in to play.  Hopefully, if you've pinned and wondered about colors, etc....this post will help you out.

My husband and I were fortunate to purchase our dream home in September 2011.  It was a foreclosure, but the bank really spiffed it up before putting it on the market.  Unfortunately, EVERYTHING was beige. From the ceiling to the floor and everywhere in between, including the floor tile and cabinets.  We even are lucky to have beige carpet in the bathroom.  Sheesh!

I HATE BEIGE.  There...I've said it.  It took us almost two years before we could start making major cosmetic changes, but in the interim, we redid our guest room and our guest bathroom.

Our Beige Guest Bath
So, you can probably deduce from this blog that I like purple....a lot.  My husband doesn't mind my love of purple and that my friends is the secret to our marriage ;).  Anywho, I saw a bathroom on Pinterest that had a dark ceiling, molding and lighter walls and I fell in love and decided that's what we would do.

We purchased this shower curtain from Bed, Bath and Beyond before we even moved out of our apartment.  I wanted it and sometimes I want things, don't buy them and then they disappear.  Ever have that happened to you?
Gotta love the Hollywood lights....not!  Oh, and look at our sad little towel, just hanging out and being sad and stuff.

On to the plans!

Initially, we had purchased a new counter top and we were planning on refinishing the cabinet.  We had settled on a dark chocolate color for the cabinet, a marble-like vanity top and a really pretty mosiac glass back splash with varying shades of brown. We also picked up light fixtures and new faucets on clearance.  We purchased a trim kit and thought we would frame out the mirror.  Oh, the plans!

Well, we had two failed attempts at purchasing a new counter top. First, the big box store ordered a single sink vanity top which wouldn't have been an issue if the sink placement had been in the correct place.  It wasn't.  We found out the error of our second attempt as our contractor was trying to install.  What three words do you not want to hear from your contractor when they are installing something for you?  It. Doesn't. Fit.  Needless to say, we spent the next 2 hours trying to track down a double sink vanity with specific measurements and sink placement. We managed!  So, my contractor got a new counter top, and we ended up with a new vanity, new mirrors *he had to take out the back splash and I just asked him to take the mirror too.  At that point, I think he saw that I was a woman on the verge of a breakdown and he obliged* and a new neutral for our color scheme!

I took the colors directly from the shower curtain.  The color on the ceiling and inside the picture molding is Behr Shy Violet and the wall color is Martha Stewart Violet Aster.

Our neutral went from brown to black. There are gray glass tiles in the back splash.  One day we will have dark gray towels to compliment this room!

Trim color is just Behr trim paint.  No tint.  I don't like beige and I don't like off white.  I'm weird.  I know.

We used dental molding as our crown and just a regular rope chair rail.  I love the way it looks.

We ended up purchasing the vanity from Lowes.  I believe it's their Allen & Roth brand.  We love it.  Plus...IT FITS!

The mirrors were a purchase from Home Depot and they were on clearance as well.  Thanks Martha Stewart.  Back splash tile was another H.D. purchase, the candle and holder was purchased from Ross many moons ago and the pretty purple mouthwash bottle is from Hobby Lobby.

We switched out the old chrome fixtures for brushed nickel.  The hooks on the far left was a gift a few years back.  The center candle holders was another Ross purchase.  The two pictures are a couple of flowers I printed off in black in white and we used them to hide family photos when we sold my husbands bachelor pad. I really love the black accents with the two purples and the crisp white.

The last thing to mention is that we installed a curved shower rod.  You will love your life if you do that!

This is now my bathroom along with the guest bath.  I love how it turned out.  We had a few bumps along the way, but what home improvement project doesn't?  Really?

As for cost, I didn't keep a running tally, but I know for a fact that we stayed under $1,000 and that includes the labor for the vanity and removing the mirrors.  It may be way less than that, but it's been too long to remember exactly!
