Ok, ok. I know we are just finishing the first week of November, but I am in the holiday mood already. It doesn't help that Christmas has been all over the place for a few months. Let's face it, it's also a job hazard. I've been working on a lot of great ornaments and cards that I will show you soon. However, today I wanted to talk to you about my favorite part of Christmas.......the tree :)
If you have read any of my other posts, you know that I have the most awesome husband on the planet. He supports my love of the color purple and is really open to using it throughout our house. It's no surprise that when I first talked to him about us having a purple and silver Christmas tree that he was all for it.
Here's our cute little Charlie Brown Christmas tree. I call it that because it was literally 5ft tall and we had 21 ft ceilings. Such a cute little thing. This was in 2009 before purple was an "in" color and I had to resort to glass balls found at Garden Ridge. It was my first time making a bow and I think the topper turned out super cute!
We decided that at the end of Christmas we would purchase a tree that would fit the space better. We found a gorgeous 9ft pre lit tree on clearance at a Christmas Store here in the DFW area. You should have seen the struggle to get that box to fit in the back of my 2006 VW Beetle...it did btw :)
We really thought that the tree would look great in our living room and then life happened and we had to sell our house. No more 21 ft. ceilings and no more house. We ended up in an apartment for a year and we didn't have the space or the money to really celebrate or decorate. Unfortunately, 2010 was a Christmas flop, but all that changed in late summer of 2011.
Is it weird to house shop with the height of your Christmas tree in mind? We did. Luckily, we found our house in June of 2011 and the ceilings are at least 11, possibly 12 ft throughout most of the house. We knew our tree would fit and that we had found our forever home.
The first Christmas was so exciting. We had slowly been collecting ornaments for our tree and when we finally got it up and decorated I cried. It was absolutely beautiful. *My photography, not so much*
I hate the background of this picture, but I did warn you that when we moved in everything was beige. Here's the real proof! Even the blinds were a horrible color, but look at the tree. Granted, the topper needed some love, but the rest of it just really took my breath away. It was everything I had ever imagined and we loved it!
We had a great Christmas that year in our new house. In 2012, I broke my foot and hurt my ankle. I was on strict no standing or walking orders during the holiday season and we didn't decorate a tree. It sucked and bummed me out because Christmas really is my favorite time of year.
Finally, in 2013, things were back on track and we were able to decorate more for the holidays. The tree turned out amazing, as did the mantle. I absolutely loved it and can't wait to see what we can pull off for this holiday season.
